Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Node On?" check?
Four things. It checks your public IP address and whether it belongs to NodeVPN, tests for DNS leaks by detecting which DNS resolvers your device uses, checks for WebRTC IP leaks, and tests whether your IPv6 traffic bypasses your VPN. Read more →
What is a DNS leak?
A DNS leak happens when your browser sends domain name lookups to your ISP's DNS servers instead of through your VPN tunnel. Your ISP can then see which websites you visit, even though your actual traffic is encrypted. Read more →
What is a WebRTC leak?
WebRTC is a browser feature used for video calls and peer-to-peer connections. It can quietly reveal your real IP address to websites, even when you're connected to a VPN. Read more →
Why does my DNS show Google or Cloudflare?
Your browser probably has "Secure DNS" (DNS over HTTPS) turned on, which overrides your VPN's DNS settings. Go into your browser settings and disable Secure DNS or Custom DNS so NodeVPN's DNS servers are used instead.
What is an IPv6 leak?
If your internet connection supports IPv6 but your VPN only tunnels IPv4 traffic, websites can see your real IPv6 address. NodeVPN blocks IPv6 by default, but certain system configurations can still expose IPv6 traffic. Read more →
Is this tool safe to use?
Yes. Node On? runs entirely on NodeVPN's own servers. There are no third-party analytics, tracking scripts, or external APIs. No test data is stored or shared. Your results live only in your browser.
How do I copy my results for support?
Click the "Copy Support Report" button. This generates a text summary with partially masked IP addresses that you can safely paste into a support ticket.
NodeVPN says connected but this says Not Protected?
This can happen if your browser is excluded from the VPN tunnel (split tunnelling), if the VPN connection has stalled, or if you're behind a captive portal. Try disconnecting and reconnecting NodeVPN, then reload this page.
What does "Datacenter / Hosting" mean?
It means you're connecting from a server or VPN provider's network rather than a home ISP. That's usually a good sign: VPN protection is active, even if it's not NodeVPN.
Why does my location show a different city?
IP geolocation is approximate. The city shown might be nearby but not spot on. When using NodeVPN, the location should match your chosen server location.
Can websites still track me with a VPN?
A VPN hides your IP address and encrypts your traffic, but websites can still identify you through cookies, login sessions, and browser fingerprinting. Think of a VPN as one layer of privacy, not a complete solution.
What is the map showing?
The map shows the approximate geographic location of your public IP address. When connected to NodeVPN, it should show the VPN server location, not your real location.
